A question came up on Quora: How can we have clarity of thought? Isn’t that a fab question? Clarity of thought is the key to unlocking all other thought processes, so it is an important question to answer for ourselves.
Granted, there are times when, in spite of our best intentions, our thoughts will be muddled. There are times of upheaval, loss, grief, moving house (or even countries), break-ups, getting laid off or the beginning of retirement from work. Major changes that make it impossible for us to stick to our normal daily routine all seem to bring an element of confusion in general. These then are not times to engage heavily in problem-solving of any kind; These are times to find our footing and be in communion with our heart, the latter being so much easier if we are already in the habit of checking in with our heart through daily meditation.
A daily meditation practice also works as prevention for putting us in a reactive frame of mind. Anger often causes misunderstandings and rage is referred to as ‘blind’ for the very reason that it prevents us from seeing and thinking clearly. When we are able to detach (using the breath to calm our mind), we quickly regain our ability to think clearly. This process is much easier and quicker if we have practised faithfully.
There are other reasons our minds become muddled too, of course. Diet, disease, sleep-deprivation and medication can all cause problems with clarity of thought.
One of the best things I did for myself with regards to diet and improving my sleep was to completely cut out alcohol. I’m naturally sensitive and prone to insomnia/anxiety as it is. Even just one glass of wine could wreck a whole night’s sleep. We usually know what the dietary culprits are. Sometimes it’s too much caffeine or sugar. Sometimes it is just overeating in general. The latter can make the mind as well as the body sluggish depending on our temperament and general constitution.
Since I associate the unicorns with the third eye and most definitely with clarity of though, wisdom and understanding, as well as imagination and psychic ability. I thought I would put the question to them as well for additional input. I’m working with the Oracle of the Unicorns and the Unicorn Tarot in the reading below. It’s a reading without positional meanings…
Unicorn Guidance on Clarity of Thought
The message is very clear indeed. All the Tarot cards are from the suit of Swords, corresponding to the Element of Air and the intellect. Together with the oracle guidance that we received as ‘Partnership’ we get a message of how our clarity is honed in relationships with others through dialogue and debate.
No man is an island. We are not to fear conflict for much of our learning is done this way once the dust settles and harmony is restored. Seek out mentors and nurture friendships that make your thinking sharper.
